How it is calculated
- Everything is converted through millilitres.
- US: 1 gallon = 3.785411784 l exactly; 1 cup = 8 fl oz = 16 tbsp = 48 tsp = 236.5882365 ml.
- Imperial (UK): 1 gallon = 4.54609 l exactly; 1 pint = 20 fl oz. Metric cup = 250 ml; metric tablespoon = 15 ml.

Questions
Why are there different cups and tablespoons?
US recipes use the US cup (about 237 ml); recipes from Canada, New Zealand and South Africa usually use a 250 ml metric cup. A metric tablespoon is 15 ml, but in Australia a tablespoon is 20 ml, so check where the recipe comes from.
Can I convert grams of flour to cups?
Not with volume alone: a cup of flour and a cup of sugar weigh different amounts. That needs the ingredient's density.
